Austrian Gold Coins
Austria is now of course in the EC and has changed its currency to the Euro.
Currently the modern range of Gold Coins includes the Philharmoniker series of Bullion coins. (Also known as Philharmonics)
From 1989 these were struck in Schillings with a face value of 200,500,1000 and 2000 schillings.

These Austrian gold coins were struck in Euros from 2002 onwards.

The largest of these is the one troy ounce with a face value of 100 Euro.
The half troy ounce coin has a face value of Fifty Euro and the quarter troy ounce is 25 Euro.
A 10 Euro gold coin is also available in this series and it is 1/10th of a troy ounce. These are of course 99.99 pure Gold Coins.

A separate Euro range of Gold Coins also exists with various themes in the same values.

In the past the currencies were different and Austrian Gold Coins began with the 16th century Ducat.
Ducats have been struck ever since in Austria but in recent years were only struck for collectors or as specimens.

The Ducat was not legal tender.
In the past Gold Coins were legal tender in Austria though and these included the Florin and The Crown.There are also 10 and 20 Gold Florin Coins in existence.
In 1908 a very collectible coin known as the Lady in The Clouds was struck in a limited edition of 16000 with an additional small quantity of proof gold coins.

This had a face value of 100 Corona (Crown) and commemorated the 60th anniversary of Franz Josephs Reign.

It is a very much sought after coin.
Some people consider this to be the most attractive 20th Century Coin Design.

A Gold and Silver Proof set was produced in 1994.

The Gold Ducats are a recognised Bullion coin and for collectors these must be in uncirculated condition to reach the highest value.
Proof coins of course are more highly valued.
