American Eagle

American Eagle - a very popular Investment Coin.
The American Eagle is a series of American Gold ,Silver and Platinum Coins.
American Eagle is the generic title for a range of Gold and Platinum Coins.These are mostly used for bullion with the exception of Proof Coins which are designed for collectors

This series is generally agreed to be the most beautiful series of coins designed as Bullion.
The design of the coins was by Augustus Saint-Gaudens and features Lady Liberty holding a torch with an olive branch in her other hand (see illustration above)
The other side of the coin is the reverse and this was designed by Miley Busiek.
This side features a Male American Eagle which carries an olive brach to his mate and chicks in their nest below.
The Gold Coins are in face values of $5,$10,$25 and $50 but of course because they are minted in Gold their actual value is much higher. This value is dependent on the current gold price for that particular day.
The weight of the American Eagle series is as follows :
1/10th oz, 1/4 oz,1/2 oz an 1 oz. These weights are in troy ounces.
The American Eagles are not in fact Pure Gold (they have 91.67% Gold (22 Karat) 3% Silver and 5.33% copper)
For Bullion purposes the 1 oz coin is the most popular American Eagle as it weighs 1.0909 troy oz.It has a Face Value of $50 but was worth over $1000 US at the time of writing.

The other coins in the series relate in value according to their weight.
The American Platinum Eagle is treated as a commodity rather than a rare coin and it is available in similar denominations to the Gold Eagle.
There are different designs for the Platinum American Eagle for each year since 1997.
Proof Coins are more valuable still and are highly valued by Collectors.
